North Gully Ambassadors hunt semi-final place
MONTEGO BAY, St James — North Gully Ambassadors can become the third semi-finalists in the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Group Senior League today but will face a tough Montego Bay Boys’ Club when they meet in the third game of a triple-header at Jarrett Park.
In the first game set to start at 3:00 pm, Revelations FC and Salt Spring United square off, while Montego Bay United Under-21 and Granville City will meet in the second game.
Little Miami FC joined Montego Bay Boys’ Club as semi-finalists so far after edging Violet Kickers 1-0 in a rescheduled third-round game at Wespow Park on Tuesday and left five other clubs to fight it out for the two remaining spots.
Montego Bay Boys’ Club lead with 31 points from 14 games followed by Little Miami FC on 29 points from 15 games, with North Gully Ambassadors, who have played 14 games and Fogo United who have played 15 games, tied on 24 points each.
Reggae Youths are next on 22 points with Violet Kickers and Montego Bay United Under-21 on 20 points each.
After a good start, North Gully Ambassadors have struggled in the third round with just one win, coming against last-placed Rosemount Gardens.
On the other hand, Boys’ Club have extended their lead while securing a semi-final spot with lots of time to spare.
A loss today would not automatically knock North Gully from contention, but it would make their job that much harder.
On Tuesday, Little Miami made it to three straight semi-final appearances after the red-hot Androckle Poyser’s second-minute goal held up to give them victory.
Poyser, who was scoring in his third straight game, took his league-leading goals tally to 14, six more than his closest rival, teammate Alwayne Simons.
At Irwin High, Melbourne FC came from two goals down with a goal in the last minute to earn a 2-2 draw with Reggae Youths, who scored twice in the first half through Leslie Foster in the 18th minute and Curtis Taylor in the 26th minute.
Trevan Allen and Davian Brown, who have combined to score 12 of Melbourne’s 18 goals, staged the comeback. Allen pulled one back in the 36th minute for a 2-1 scoreline at half-time, before Brown grabbed a dramatic last-minute equaliser to give his team a valuable point that should see them secure a place in the Senior League next season.
