European Football Round Up – Gunners seal CL football
On the final day of the season, Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny nicked the lone crucial goal to give Arsenal the 1-0 win over Newcastle and Champions League berth football next season despite Gareth Bale’s best efforts in his team’s 1-0 win over Sunderland.
Alex Ferguson’s last match was a 10-goal thriller as the Red Devils went up 5-2 only to be foiled by a Romelu Lukaku hat-trick to end Sir’s Alex’s reign with a 5-5 draw at West Brom.

Ronaldo brings up 200
Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 200th goal in 197 games as Real Madrid romped to a 6-2 victory over nine-man Malaga.
Ronaldo also assisted with two goals as Los Blancos attempted to make amends for their loss to rivals Atletico in the Copa del Rey. Real Sociedad meanwhile came back from 1-0 down to beat Sevilla 2-1 as they remain neck-and-neck with Valencia, who beat Getafe 1-0 in the battle for fourth place.

Celta 1 — Atletico Madrid 3
Barcelona 2 — Valladolid 1
Zaragoza 1 — Bilbao 2
Milan nip CL berth
It required two late goals including a controversially awarded Mario Balotelli penalty for AC Milan to beat Siena 2-1 and stave off Fiorentina’s late surge for a spot in next season’s Champions League.
This, despite Fiorentina’s best efforts in a 5-1 rout of Pescara as promising playmaker Adem Ljacic ended his best season yet with a hat-trick.
First-placed Juventus and second-placed Napoli ended their seasons with defeats to Sampdoria and Roma respectively, as Sampdoria completed the double over Juve.
NOTE: Palermo, Siena and Pescara have been relegated to be replaced by Sassuolo and Hellas Livorno while Livorno, Empoli, Novara and Brescia will enter a play-off for the final promotion spot.
Schalke hold CL place
When it really mattered, starlet playmaker Julian Draxler spurred Schalke on to a 2-1 win over their nearest challengers SC Freiburg in order to secure Champions’ League football next season
Meanwhile, the two Champions’ League finalists ended the season on contrasting notes as Franck Ribery starred for the millionth time this season to bring Bayern Munich from 3-1 down to get a 4-3 win. Dortmund however seemed somewhat lethargic as they handed Hoffenheim a lifeline with a 2-1 loss.
NOTE: Hoffenheim will now play Kaiserlautern in the playoffs for a spot in next season’s Bundesliga. Fortuna Dusseldorf and Greuther Furth have been relegated, while Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Braunschweig have been promoted.
