Sweet end – St Catherine FA brings season to end with glamour awards
DB Basovak and Albion United were the toasts of the LIME St Catherine Football Association’s Awards ceremony, sweeping most of the honours at the Twickenham Park Police Academy last Thursday.
DB Basovak won seven of the nine awards in the Major League category, while Albion won eight of the nine categories on hand in the Division One.
Basovak’s Andre Simmonds copped two awards — the Most Valuable Player and Leading Goal Scorer — with Zavian McGaw capturing the Most Outstanding Junior Player. Vinroy Hayles was voted the Outstanding Player of the Final and Best Defender with Sheldon Stephens the Best Goalkeeper and Michael Johnson the Winning Coach. Kerome Richards of Christian Pen was the Best Midfielder, with Black Lions being the Most Disciplined Team.
Albion’s Tavoy Morgan received three awards in Division One for Most Valuable Player, Leading Goal Scorer and Most Outstanding Junior Player.
Albion got more awards as Kenny Lee was voted Outstanding Player of the Final, Best Goalkeeper with Leo Wright and Michael Prehaye the Best Defender. Chadwick Prawl was voted the Best Midfielder.
Spanish Town Police were fittingly voted the Most Disciplined Team with Daine Brown the Winning Coach.
Meanwhile, with LIME’s three-year sponsorship deal of the St Catherine Football Association due to expire at the end of the season, the telecommunications provider has expressed delight with the partnership over the last three years.
“The level of skill and tactics these players have put on display during the season was astounding. The matches kept spectators on their toes in the stands and it brought great joy to the LIME family to have contributed to the league,” said Carlo Redwood, LIME’s vice-president of marketing.
Peter Reid, president of the St Catherine FA, was again thankful to LIME for their three years of contribution to the development of football in the parish.
“This award ceremony is the official closing of the very exciting 2012/2013 season of the LIME-sponsored St Catherine football competitions. “Congratulations are in order for all the clubs who participated,” said Reid.
He continued: “It should be noted that without the sponsorship of the competitions by LIME, the successful staging of the competitions and the awards function would not be possible.”
