Little Miami make big impact in Sandals/ATL league
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Little Miami FC continued their surge up the points tables scoring a big 3-2 win over a stuttering North Gully Ambassadors in their crucial St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Group third-round game at Jarrett Park on Friday.
Androckle Poyser scored twice in the second half to move his tally to a league-leading 13 goals as Little Miami moved to second place on 26 points and just a point away from joining Montego bay Boys Club in the semi-finals.
Also on Friday, Boys Club blanked Granville City 2-0 to improve to 31 points and extended their lead to five points, while Salt Spring United beat relegation bound Rosemount Gardens 4-1.
With two rounds of games still to be played, seven other teams are in with a mathematical chance of advancing to the semi-finals.
Little Miami have been on a goal-scoring spree over their last three games with 12 from their total of 25, while conceding just three.
Alwayne Simons gave them the lead in the 16th minute on Friday, but Nicholas Barnes levelled in the 26th minute for North Gully Ambassadors as the teams were tied at 1-1 at half time.
Poyser, who scored two goals in their last win, a 4-1 victory over Granville City a week earlier, then scored two quick goals early in the second half, in the 51st and 54th minutes to give them a 3-1 lead.
Former national senior team midfielder Hector Wright then scored in the 73rd minute to give North Gully some hope but that was as close as they would get.
Boys Club had things easy against Granville with goals from Glenroy Williams in the 16th minute and Kalusha Koates in the 25th, before cruising to three more points.
Salt Spring United moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone with a 4-1 spanking of Rosemount Gardens with Anthony Brown scoring twice in the 18th and 78th minutes, while Javian Bailey and Stephen Forrest also scored in the first half with Gregory Anderson scoring the fourth goal of the season in their 14th game for Rosemount.
