SVL Major, Minor League Netball finals on today
UNBEATEN Raven ‘A’ and Alpha will square off against each other in the 2013 Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)/Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Major League netball final today at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 5:45 pm.
Meanwhile, Spanish Town and Duhaney Park Strikers go up against each other in the SVL Minor League final, beginning at 4:00 pm, while Raven ‘A’ and Alpha clash in the Major League final at 5:45 pm.
Raven reached the Major League final by defeating Molynes United ‘A’ 39-37, while Alpha stopped Blades United ‘A’ 44-42 in their respective semi-finals played last Tuesday. Alpha had lost to Blades in the preliminary round in the zone they had competed.
The semi-finals of the Minor League also played last Tuesday saw Spanish Town Strikers beating SKIBO ‘B’ 31-25, while Duhaney Park Strikers outscored Tantrum 28-17.
Coach of Raven, Christopher Smart said he expects a very good game.
“We just need to keep our composure and the team that needs it most will come out victorious. Both of us will be facing each other for the first time this season. I always respect my opponents and don’t underestimate them, their strength and weaknesses, we are just going out there to play our own game,” Smart said.
Dwight Sutherland, coach of Alpha said it is going to be a tough match, as whenever the teams meet it always turns out to be an exciting and close encounter.
“However, I am confident that Alpha should pull it off, as we have a lot of experienced players and the players know what to do, but we need to get on top of our game to ensure victory,” Sutherland said.
This will be both team’s third final in the Major League (formerly Division ‘A’ League. Raven have won and lost, while Alpha is yet to gain a hold on the title. The game will be a one-hour encounter.
Omar Williams, coach of Duhaney Park Strikers, said he is confident of capturing the Minor League title, as his team beat Spanish Town Strikers in the Open League earlier this year.
Meanwhile, in the third place play-off in the Major League, Blades United ‘A’ beat Molynes United ‘A’ 45-41, while in the Minor League third place play-off, SKIBO ‘B’ clipped Tantrum 26-25.
The presentation of awards, trophies, medals and individual prizes will follow the finals.
