Catch Di Riddim: CK gets ready to party
SINGER Clara Kahwa, better known as CK, has dropped the video for her latest song Party Up in Here, released by the Africa House label.
It is the follow-up to her cover of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors.
“Party Up in Here was written to explore the party side of me. This single shows my style as an artiste,” says CK.
The track was co-written by CK and her brother Timothy Kahwa who also produced it. Her other brother, Patrick, is executive producer.
Born in Louisiana to Tanzanian parents, CK migrated to Jamaica with her family when she was three years old.
She describes her sound as a mix of dancehall, reggae and Rhythm and Blues, and says her music reflects her lifestyle.
“My whole style embodies this, from my fashion sense to the way I sing, the topics I sing about and the way in which I perform. I’m one to make my work speak for itself.”
CK is currently working on an EP with Quik Keyz.
Calico Flames hails the ghetto
Deejay Calico Flames recently teamed with singer Nitty Kutchie for the empowerment song, Rise From the Ghetto.
The track is co-produced by Junior Forbes of Secret Productions LLC and Rohan Brown of Jem Tar Productions.
Born Oneil Chung, Calico Flames grew up in Montego Bay. He says Rise From the Ghetto is based on personal experience.
“A lot of people think that nothing good happens in the ghetto and all ghetto people are bad, but that’s not true. What is true is the fact that life is very hard in the ghetto and people have to work hard to survive and sometimes some have to do things that they might not really want to do, but they do it to survive,” he explained.
He spoke about the link with Nitty Kutchie, an original member of the Scare Dem Crew.
“It was a really good experience working with Nitty Kutchie in the studio. He’s a very talented artiste,” said Calico Flames.
