Bob Marley powers Hyundai campaign
REGGAE icon Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds is the driving force behind Hyundai’s new marketing campaign.
Remixed by Marley’s son, Stephen, and DJ/producer Jason Bentley, the spruced-up classic was originally released on the Legend album by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1984 .
Marley died in May 1981.
The ad, which began airing on Tuesday, speaks to the virtues of the South Korean car manufacturer’s new Assurance Connected Care programme which is designed for stress-free and safe driving.
This is not the first time that a Jamaican reggae artiste has been used to power a car manufacturer’s brand.
Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff was used in VW’s Super Bowl XLVII in January.
Cliff, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician and star of the 1972 cult film classic The Harder They Come, performs a cover of The Partridge Family’s C’mon, Get Happy.
Cliff, 65 — the only living Jamaican musician to hold the Order of Merit — is experiencing a career comeback. His latest album, Rebirth, was given a Grammy nod at Staple Centre in Los Angeles in February.
