Highgate join Savannah in relegation from RSPL
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Highgate United were demoted from the 2012-2013 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) despite scoring a 1-0 win over Cavalier at Drax Hall in the 38th and final round of matches yesterday.
A Severo Murphy 23rd-minute free kick gave Highgate United victory, but it was not enough to keep them in the top-flight competition after Sporting Central Academy earned a hard-fought 2-2 result away to Montego Bay United at Catherine Hall Complex.
This resulted in both teams ending their campaigns on 44 points, but the Clarendon-based Sporting Central Academy finished in 10th place on a better goal average. Sporting ended with a -5 goal difference, having scored 39 goals and conceded 44, while Highgate ended with a -9 goal difference, with 40 goals scored and 49 conceded. In other games yesterday, Waterhouse edged Arnett Gardens 1-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex; Boys’ Town inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Complex; and the already demoted Savannah SC edged Humble Lion 2-1 at Effortville Community Centre.
