North Gully back in second place in St James football
MONTEGO BAY, St James — North Gully Ambassadors won for the first time in the third round and moved back into second place in the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Group Senior League after a 3-0 win over last-placed and relegation-bound Rosemount Gardens at Jarrett Park on Friday.
After three games without a win in the third round, Rosemount Gardens, who were promoted last season, proved to be the ideal tonic for title-chasing North Gully, who scored three times in the first half.
North Gully Ambassadors are on 24 points, four behind leaders Montego Bay Boys Club’s 28, with Little Miami, who beat Granville City 4-1 in the opening game of the triple header, next on 23 points, and on goal difference ahead of Fogo United and with a game in hand.
Chrisal Watkins gave North Gully Ambassadors the lead after just 11 minutes, national senior men’s team coach Theodore Whitmore added a second in the 25th minute with this third of the season, while Dwayne Powell added a third in the 34th minute.
Little Miami toyed with Granville City on their way to a 4-1 victory that kept them in the hunt for a third straight semi-final berth, with Androckle Poyser and Alwayne Simmons both scoring twice, but combined to miss at least four other easy scoring chances.
Poyser opened the scoring as early as the second minute, but Granville levelled the scores in the seventh minute through Odane Coke.
Poyser then scored his league-leading 11th goal in the 28th minute to restore his team’s lead, while Simmons added two more in the second half in the 71st and 78th minutes.
In the second game of the day, Melbourne FC benefited from two own goals from Revelation to win 3-2 for their second victory of the season.
Damion James scored the only goal from a Melbourne player in the 26th minute to give them the lead before the implosion in the Revelations team started.
Oliver Marston scored the first own goal in the 31st minute to give Melbourne a 2-0 half-time lead before Revelations fought back to level the scores.
Oniel Cuff pulled one back for Revelation in the 46th minute before Adrian Wood restored parity in the 53rd minute.
Another own goal in the 69th minute from Orville Wright, however, broke Revelations’ hearts, as they slipped back to one point above the drop zone on 10, just one more than Granville City.
