MoBay edge Cavalier in lifeless affair
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay United continue to make a mockery of the two-tiered fourth round of the Red Stripe Premier League after a 1-0 win over Cavalier at Jarrett Park saw them open a three-point lead over Tivoli Gardens for sixth place in the overall points tables.
Montego Bay United had finished seventh after the three previous rounds and fell to the ‘relegation group’, while Tivoli Gardens who finished ahead of them, secured their places for next season before the start of the fourth round.
MBU’s win on Sunday and a 3-2 loss for Tivoli Gardens against Arnett Gardens, however, saw the Montego Bay team move ahead in the table 53 againt Tivoli’s 50 points.
On Sunday, Kemiro James scored the game’s only goal in a contest, and with nothing of great value at stake, hardly rose above pedestrian pace in the first Premier League game at the venue in about three years.
After a listless first half, Keneil Kirlew hit Cavalier’s right upright with a left-footed volley from about 25 yards out that saw goalkeeper Gariece McPherson completely beaten.
MBU then enjoyed a period of dominance that led to James beating McPherson from close range in the 58th minute.
