Three-way battle for Golden League title
Three teams — Santos, Harbour View and Kush — will battle to be crowned champions of the 2013 Bull Investment-sponsored Golden League football when the final round of matches are contested at the NWC playing field, Mona today.
Long-time leaders Santos are on 28 points, two ahead of both Harbour View, whom they play at 6:00 pm, and Kush, who oppose Eastern, also at 6:00 pm.
Harbour View need a victory to win their first Golden League title. Match time is 6:00 pm. The Harbour View team will rely on Ian McNaughton, Andrew ‘Bowa’ Hines, Dean Smith, Paul Akiens, George Smith and Michael Baugh for victory, while leaders Santos, who needed three points from their last four matches to clinch the title, will look to Trevor ‘TC’ Campbell, Wayne Brown, Nyron Prawl, Bryan Leon, Wayne Shaw and Ian Burnett for victory.
Kingston Commissioners won the knockout title last Sunday after they came from behind to stop Barbican 3-1 in the final. Dane Peralto scored a brace, and Donald Clarke got the consolation for Barbican. The league is contested between 15 teams with players being 45 years and over.
