Classic’s title prospects up in smoke
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Title favourites Classic United and Prospect Links were both dumped from the Trelawny Football Association Monymusk White Overproof Rums Major League on Sunday after the return legs of the semi-finals played at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Mid-season champions Prospect Links went out to Spicy Hill FC, while Classic United that topped the points tables at the end of the regular season, were upset by fourth-place Duanvale FC.
Duanvale and Spicy Hill will now meet in the two-way final with the first leg set for Sunday at Elliston Wakeland.
Former national player Fabian Dawkins scored once in the first half and Prospect Links conceded an own goal as Spicy Hill won 2-0 after the teams had tied 1-1 in the first leg played the previous weekend at the same venue.
Dawkins, who also represented Village United in the Premier League, scored for the second straight game when he gave them the lead in the 14th minute before Prospect Link conceded an own goal in the 40th.
Duanvale, meanwhile, came back from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw on Sunday and eventually got the better of Classic 5-3 on aggregate.
Coming into the game two goals down from the first leg, Classic came out the more aggressive and saw Leighton Brown scoring twice in the eighth and 39th minutes to level the tie at 2-2.
Orlando Grey then got a brace of his own in the 51st and 59th minutes to give the advantage back to Duanvale FC.
Omar Hemmings then trimmed the overall deficit to one goal for Classic when he scored in the 70th minute, but Kevon Bartley made it safe for Duanvale with an 88th minute goal that returned their two-goal advantage.
Meanwhile, All-Star SC and Salt Marsh will contest the Division One final after wins in the semi-final.
All Stars beat Baca Stars 4-2 on penalties after they played out a 3-3 aggregate over the two legs of the semi-finals.
Salt Marsh beat Upsetters 3-0 in Saturday’s semi-finals for a 4-1 aggregate.
