Allan Virgo’s designs for STYLEWEEK 2013
Buoyed by the success of the 2012 Jamaica 50 edition of STYLEWEEK JAMAICA, organisers Saint International say plans are far advanced to make this year’s staging as unforgettable as the last.
“STYLEWEEK JAMAICA 2K13, May 22-26, will demonstrate, once again, its global appeal for new and established designers. We have a number of leading design talent that have expressed in showing from London, New York, LA, Paris and beyond,” says founder Deiwght Peters.
Against this background, the agency is announcing that Jamaican-born Allan Virgo, outerwear designer for American luxury brand Michael Kors has confirmed his appearance for the events.
The 29-year-old, Kingston-born Virgo will be one of several international names to be presented at the International Mecca Of Style on May 25.
He attended Denham Town Primary, Norman Manley High and Kingston College (KC). He left Jamaica a few months after completing sixth form at KC in 2003.
He was first featured his spring/summer collection at Jamaica Style Week 2010 and again in 2011. He is excited to return to the STYLEWEEK JAMAICA platform where he will also be featuring his spring/summer 2013 collection there this year.
Virgo began his journey into the world of fashion by working for his mother’s seamstress business at an early age. He later played an integral part of the design teams at Guess Inc. and Michael Kors. In 2010 he launched his self-title women’s wear and menswear brand with a design philosophy encompassing quality, crafted contemporary luxury, which is influence by American and Jamaican culture. This he launched to critical acclaim at STYLEWEEK 2010.
