LOCAL energy system company, FosRich, is among those which have submitted proposals to supply floodlights at Sabina Park, Jamaica’s premier cricket ground.

Lighting at Sabina Park is a critical requirement for the world-famous venue to feature in the much-touted Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty/20 cricket competition slated to start in July.

It is unclear how many other organisations have submitted proposals.

In order to respond to the demands of the Sabina Park Sport Floodlighting Project, and in positioning itself to deploy the optimal solution, FosRich has formed a strategic partnership with world-renowned Dutch company, Royal Philips Electronics (Philips). Philips’s promotional material describes the company as an industry leading lighting solutions provider, offering integrated lighting solutions that substantially enhance the fan experience, both in the stadium and at home. Philips has created a very unique portfolio of lighting products specifically designed to support stadium floodlighting applications. Interestingly, the Jamaica Observer has also learnt that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB)’s standards for cricket stadium lighting are based on specifications developed by Philips.

With its strategic alliance with Philips, FosRich proposes to implement an enhanced integrated solution to support and extend the functions of Sabina Park. Thus, the lighting system proposed is designed to be used in at least three different scenarios:

* Level 3: Concert lighting illumination for security

* Level 2: Football (meeting FIFA stadium standard match lighting conditions)

* Level 1: Cricket match lighting conditions (most importantly)

This then will allow Sabina Park to become a venue for more than just cricket, presenting a real opportunity for increased use of the facility and a chance for it to earn more revenue. Sabina Park could thus become a viable alternative to the National Stadium, while also increasing its stake in hosting corporate night and evening functions.

The FosRich proposal also includes a renewable energy solution. Essentially, the company is proposing that the roofs of the George Headley and the North Stands be used for hosting enough solar panels to generate some 40 kilowatts of electrical power. Additionally, there is a proposal to enhance energy conservation by changing to LED lighting throughout the venue. Further integrated with a smart lighting system provides a platform for substantially reducing energy costs in a real way.

Significantly, the FosRich submission also includes a financing proposal to make the project happen. Consistent with the company’s “abilities and capabilities” to provide full and partial turnkey lighting and energy projects to the Jamaican private sector, FosRich proposes to provide Sabina Park Holdings Ltd with a structured loan facility.

FosRich’s proposal further states that the company has created a set of solutions, developed to not only meet the criteria as established today, but one that also provides a path to growth and expansion through scalable network elements. In this regard, there is also proposal for the inclusion of an electronic media wall as a major advertising and marketing tool. This will not only go a far way toward the overall enhancement of the venue, but it also has exciting implications for reducing break-even period and achieving the ROI (return on investment) earlier than will be expected.
