Tivoli ‘A’ on a roll in Berger Super League
TIVOLI ‘A’ chalked up their fifth consecutive win with a comprehensive whipping of GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ 52-25 as action continued in the 2013 Berger Paints/Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Super League competition at the Leila Robinson Courts on Saturday.
The Sylvester ‘Chris’ Campbell-coached Tivoli ‘A’ from the West Kingston community made easy work of their opponents from the opening first quarter and went on to a runaway win.
Meanwhile, the C Lloyd Walker-coached GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ from Angels in Spanish Town never really produced any great challenge to the more experienced and quality playing of their opponents and were never in contention to make any worthwhile impression and in the processe went down to a convincing defeat.
It was however, the shooting of Jamaica’s national senior player Sabrina Spence who made the difference and gave Tivoli ‘A’ a handsome win by netting 45 goals from 51 attempts.
The first quarter saw Tivoli ‘A’ taking an early command of the action as they moved the ball swiftly around and went on to take a 14-3 lead at the first break as the combinations between shooters Spence and Jodi Ann Ffrench-Kentish combined to place their team in front.
GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ produced a much better performance in the second quarter by matching Tivoli ‘A’ in goals (7-9), but still trailed 23-10 at the half-time break. The trio of Nickeisha Cohen, Sade Ffrench and Kimeisha Sterling took control of centre court to provide scoring opportunities for the shooters.
Tivoli ‘A’ stepped up the pace in the third quarter and outscored their opponents 15-8 at the completion of the third and final break, while the losers’ shooters Shanice Howe and Petal Smith hardly received the chance to score many goals.
The winners scored 14 additional goals to GC Foster’s seven goals to carve out a convincing 52-25 goals win.
Meanwhile, the defending champions JAMALCO and University of the West Indies (UWI) Pelicans ‘A’ game which had been postponed from last Saturday will now be played tomorrow, beginning at 6:45 pm.
