Malouda to host Champion League party in Ja
FRENCH footballer Florent Malouda, who is a frequent visitor to Jamaica, has committed to being the host of Heineken’s UEFA Champions League final extravaganza to be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre on May 25.
Diageo Red Stripe Brand Manager of, Jamaica Nasha Douglas, confirmed to the Jamaica Observer that last season’s Champions League winner, has accepted the invitation.
“May 25 is the big day. We are bringing down Florent Malouda to host the day with us. He is booked and paid for… whole bunch of things will be happening on the 25th and it will be free to the public,” said Douglas.
Malouda, 32, capped 80 times with nine goals for France, is currently out of favour with the Chelsea management and has been sidelined after things went bad last summer where he demanded a transfer.
Last year fans watched at the National Indoor Centre in Kingston as Malouda’s English club Chelsea defeated Germany’s Bayern Munich on penalties for the title, and with the Cup winner down to join local fans in watching the football spectacle on big TV screens, the Chelsea flavour remains.
The Champions League’s first leg semi-final between Barcelona and Bayern Munich was watched live on television at Cuddyz, Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records, Howie’s Pub, Margaritaville, Danny’s Marina, John Crow Tavern, Escape 24-7, MoBay Proper, South Beach, Bello’s Bar and Grill, and Gee Wee Restaurant.
Bayern Munich shocked the Spanish giant 4-0.
“It’s all about football and beer. We will be showing the matches live. What we are going to do is sensitise our Heineken consumers. It’s really about engaging the consumer on the day, have fun during the match time and win something while you are taking that little break away from work,” Douglas explained.
The same deal will be available for the second semi-final first leg between Real Madrid of Spain and Germany’s Borussia Dortmund today.
