Flexxing with Travis Anomie
teenAGE recently sat down with the talented new artiste, Travis Alexander, who goes by the stage name Travis Anomie and what a moment in time it was. Travis, gave teenAGE insight on life and his love for music.
ALREADY an entrepreneur — he owns a registered production company Avatar Media Production — Travis is a graduate of Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication at the University of the West Indies, who wants to make music his real moneymaker.
His hit single Accompong Town (Rise), which is now out on the airwaves and has already garnered over 40,000 views on YouTube.
“When I first heard the riddim for this song, produced by brothers Budd and Troy Locke and Richie Wizz from my label Ahmit Records, I right away envisioned everything about the mood and vibe that I wanted for it. It was released on the After Dark mixtape and I wanted to pay homage to our own local heroes and their bravery, while remaining current and different,” Travis told teenAGE.
It was a bit of a puzzle, so we asked him was why his focus was on music and not practicing media.
“Well, thinking back to my early childhood, my first experience with music was when I useds to listen to my St Lucian father’s (Lucio Alexander) cassettes and record songs over them. Right then and there I just found a love for music,” he said. “I can also remember entering deejay competitions at the York Castle High and winning them all. I recognised that I had a very creative mind, and so always found myself going to the studio to record songs that I would continuously write.”
Travis believes that music is a very powerful tool that has the wealth and power to make a positive impact and to bring about change in the world.
“When I listen to certain stories and go out and experience nature, I am just inspired and refreshed. This even helps me a lot in writing.”
He praised the professionalism of Spragga Benz, Tarrus Riley and Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley, all of whom he respects as true artistes and hopes to collaborate with in the near future.
He also expresses his love for Coldplay’s style and artistry and even hopes to work with them as well.
The Ocho Rios native told teenAGE that one of his career highlights was performing at Spectrum and at Sting last year.
He also shared with us that he would love to perform at Jazz and Blues Festival and Reggae Sumfest.
He hopes to reach a point in his career where his image and sound is known globally. If the popularity of his first single is anything to go by, his wish may just come true.
