Exco Levi storms the Junos
Deejay Exco Levi won his second straight Juno Award for Reggae Recording of the Year on Sunday, with the song Storms of Life.
The Juno, Canada’s version of the Grammy Awards, took place at The Brandt Centre in Saskatchewan.
Exco Levi’s song got the nod over four rivals: Move Ya by Elaine ‘Lil Bit’ Shepherd; Radio by Ammoye; Yours to Keep by Makeshift Innocence; and Made for Love by Melanie Durrant.
Toronto-based Exco Levi (given name Wayne Ford Levy), won the Juno last year for the controversial song Bleaching Shop, produced by Donovan Germain’s Penthouse Records.
The 32-year-old deejay, who was raised in Clarendon, migrated to Canada in 2005.
Though he lives in Canada, Exco Levi has maintained a steady recording schedule in Jamaica, also working with producer Shane Brown’s Juke Boxx Music label.
It was the first Juno call for Ammoye, who also hails from Clarendon. Radio was produced by Kemar ‘Flava’ McGregor.
