Bridgmohan sends early warning with double
TORONTO, Canada (CMC) — Jamaican reinsman Jermaine Bridgmohan headlined the opening day of the new Woodbine season, posting a double on Saturday’s 10-race card.
The 24-year-old won with 7-1 bet Destiny’s Song in race six before returning to take the day’s last race with 3-1 chance Daniel Be Good.
Bridgmohan, who usually campaigns in the United States but rode 168 mounts here last season, is attempting to become a stable member of the jockey colony at the renowned Toronto oval.
He kicked off his success when he brought Destiny’s Song with a late run to beat the three-year-olds and upward by half length.
Going seven furlongs, Bridgmohan stalked the leader Majestic Hope from near the rear before making a bid at the top of the stretch. Bridgmohan lost his whip with a furlong to run but urged the four-year-old bay gelding to the finish, holding off the fast-finishing favourite Run to the Bank.
In a five-furlong sprint in race 10, Bridgmohan produced a similar ride, stalking the leaders before challenging at the 16th pole and racing to the finish 1 1/2 lengths clear.
