Grant hits four-timer as Irwin win 8-1
IRWIN, St James — Chay Grant scored four goals as Irwin FC romped to a resounding 8-1 beating of Westgreen FC to avenge a first-round loss in their St James Football Association Dennis Barton/Weston King Division One game played at Irwin High on Thursday.
Westgreen had won their first-round meeting 3-0, but had little answer for the rampant Irwin FC team that led 4-0 at half-time with goals from Grant before the floodgates burst open in the second half.
The win moved Irwin FC into joint second place on 10 points with Marl Road, who beat Paradise FC 3-0, both trailing runaway Zone A leaders Mountain Villa, who have won all six games so far to be on 18 points.
Grant sent the team off to a good start scoring in the first and 22nd minutes, before Nicholas Campbell added two more in the 40th and 44th minutes for the half-time score.
Grant then completed his three-timer in the 49th minute, Odaine Ellis added one in the 52nd minute for 6-0; Grant got his fourth in the 58th minute, before Karson Brown made it 8-0 in the 68th minute, while Craig Russell got a consolation for Westgreen in the 73rd minute.
Marl Road got two goals from Narone East in the 50th and 70th minutes, while Wayon Pinnock scored in the 60th for the 3-0 win over Paradise, who were losing their fifth straight game.
Lilliput Rovers, meanwhile, took over the lead in Zone B after beating Copperwood FC 2-1 to move to 11 points, two more than Seaview FC.
Martin Hewitt scored in the 15th minute to give Lilliput the lead, while Kemar Reynolds made it 2-0 in the 57th minute, before Richard Rankine pulled one back for Copperwood in the 59th minute.
