National football coach feared dead in motor vehicle crash
ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) – The coach of the Dominica football team, Kurt Hector, is among two people missing and feared dead after the vehicle in which they were travelling fell into a large hole at Pond Case, south east of here as a result of heavy rains over the past few days.
Gerald George, a spokesman for the Dominica Football Association (DFA) speaking on the state-owned DBS radio, said that the accident occurred during the early hours on Friday as team members were travelling to the capital in preparation for travel to St Vincent and the Grenadines to participate in the revived Windward Islands Football championship.
George said that the team will no longer participate in the competition.
One footballer, who was also travelling in the vehicle, is being treated at the Prince Margaret Hospital. He has confirmed that the coach and another footballer had not been seen since the accident.
A senior Fire Department official said that rescue officials are at the scene and is urging motorists not to travel to the area.
“At this time I can’t speak to the injury of the people, “he told DBS radio, “adding” it is a very precarious situation”.
