Waterhouse look to turn up heat on H’View
TITLE-CHASING Waterhouse FC can continue putting severe pressure on the inactive and stuttering leaders Harbour View if they can beat Boys’ Town in a pivotal game at Collie Smith Drive in one of only four Red Stripe Premier League matches today.
Following Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Tivoli Gardens, Harbour View have extended their winless streak to seven games and also increased their lead to seven points with four games remaining.
Jermie Lynch gave the ‘Stars of the East’ a 23rd-minute lead, nodding home from a corner kick, before Navion Boyd equalised from the penalty spot in the 75th minute.
Harbour View, with their 12th drawn game, inched to 63 points and are seven points ahead of Waterhouse, and nine above third-placed Boys’ Town, both of whom will clash today, starting at 3:30 pm.
Following their 3-0 thump-ing of defending champions Portmore on Sunday, Water-house will be bubbling with confidence and are favoured to get the better of Boys’ Town, especially with the leading goalscorer Jermaine Anderson in fine form.
A win for Waterhouse would reduce the gap at the top to just four points and would put pressure on Harbour View in their Thursday evening clash to get a positive result against an Arnett Gardens team that defeated them 2-1, just two matches ago.
If Harbour View fail to beat Arnett Gardens then it will only get more difficult as they will have to play Boys’ Town, Waterhouse and then Portmore United in their last three outings.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, St Mary’s outfit Highgate United could be relegated if they lose to Montego Bay United and Humble Lion get a win against Cavalier.Highgate are second from bottom on 32 points and trail Humble Lion by eight points and must beat seventh-placed Montego Bay United, if they are to prolong their stay in the premier league.
If Highgate lose and Humble Lion even draw, that will be a nine-point difference with three games remaining, hence that could also mean curtains for Highgate, who would have to win their last three matches and pray that Humble Lion lose their three matches also.
But a win for Highgate today against Montego Bay, coupled with a defeat for Humble Lion against Cavalier, could make things interesting as the gap would be reduced to just five points.
The already relegated Savannah SC, on 19 points, host ninth-placed Sporting Central FC, on 43 points, in a game of academic interest at Frome starting at 3:30 pm.TODAY’S GAMES
