Port Antonio, Portland — Former National Under-17 player Dever Orgill, who has played for the Vancouver Whitecaps (Canada) and St Georges Sports Club, has landed a new contract in Finland to play with the Ifk Mariehamn in the Veikkausliiga league.

Orgill left Jamaica after the 2007 for Vancouver Whitecaps before returning home at his old club St George’s Sports Club in the National Premier League. He eventually made the trek back to Canada, where he was in training with the Vancouver Whitecaps when he landed this new contract.

Orgill told the Jamaica Observer on Sunday that he was upbeat.

“I was in Canada training with the Vancouver Whitecaps and a good friend of mine Jason Trafford, a past teammate, told me about this club Ifk Mariehamn and they agreed to bring me over for a trial and I came over for a couple of days,” Orgill explained.

“They had to make a decision on me as the season was about to start, so they gave me a few days and decided to give me a contract. I accepted it and it is looking good so far.

“The quality of players here looks good and we can do well as the environment is great and they are welcoming,” concluded Orgill.

Two other Jamaicans are playing for this team — Roger Thompson and Alonzo Adlam — and the club is said to be one of the top four clubs in the league.
