Trinidad return to winning ways in South Africa
SINOVILLE, South Africa (CMC) — West Indies all-rounder Stacy-Ann King scored an unbeaten half-century to lead Trinidad and Tobago women’s team to a three-wicket win over an invitational eleven on their tour of South Africa Wednesday.
King, who has been in ripping form in local competition with two centuries, played a well-compiled 50 to guide T&T to their 218-run target with 14 balls to spare.
The left-handed King received solid support from fellow all-rounder Britney Cooper, 40, Selene O’Neil, 31, and Gaitri Seetahal, 28.
The victory was Trinidad and Tobago’s third on their tour of South Africa after losing their 50-over match against Northerns on Tuesday, and winning their first two T20 matches.
Lizelle Lee was the best South African bowler with two for 35.
Earlier, she made a brilliant 136 that guided her team to 217 for 8 in their 50 overs.
The prized wicket of South Africa’s national player Mignon du Preez fell for only 27.
Du Preez has been in excellent form scoring 121 runs on Tuesday playing for Northerns in a five-run win over T&T.
Alisa Mohammed and Kamara Ragoobar grabbed two wickets apiece for 22 and 24 runs, respectively.
T&T were captained by Shenelle Lord in place of regular skipper Merissa Aguilleira, who was rested for the game.
The visitors continue their tour with a 50 overs game against Northerns today followed by two T20 matches against Northerns tomorrow.
