Windwards down Leewards to grab fifth win
NORTH SOUND, Antigua (CMC) — Windward Islands needed less than half-hour to complete an easy nine-wicket win over Leeward Islands on the third morning of their final-round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship here yesterday.
Resuming on 158 for nine, the Leewards failed to add as Haydn Walsh was lbw to off-spinner Liam Sebastien for four just seven balls into the day’s play.
Sebastien finished with five for 30, while fellow off-spinner Shane Shillingford picked up three for 45.
Both players shared the Man-of-the-Match award.
Set 20 to win, the Windwards lost Tyrone Theophile without a run on the board, but left-handed opener Devon Smith smacked four boundaries in his 19 off 18 balls to see the visitors home.
The victory gave the Windwards their fifth win of the competition and put them on 60 points from their full complement of games, while the Leewards finished winless with a mere seven points.
