Village eliminated from semis
FLORENCE HALL, Trelawny — Village United’s slim chances of making it to the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League ended on Wednesday after they were beaten 3-2 by Tomorrow’s People in a rescheduled third-round, cross-zone game at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.
An 89th-minute goal from Gregory Tape broke the 2-2 deadlock that ended Village’s hopes of a place in the top four and ensured Tomorrow’s People can finish no lower than second place.
Village are on 19 points with one game to go, but cannot get into the top four, while Tomorrow’s People are leaders on 35 points, having completed their schedule of 16 games.
Reno are next on 33 points, followed by Wadadah FC on 30, both with a game to go.
On Wednesday, Jermaine Cooper gave Tomorrow’s People the lead after eight minutes, but the home team rallied to lead with goals from Joseph Small, in the 51st minute, and a Tomorrow’s People own goal in the 75th minute.
The St James club roared back, however, with Davell Cornwall scoring his ninth goal in the 79th minute to level the scores before the veteran Tape scored the winner as time ran out.
