Dr Ingram gives Young Boyz clean bill of health
VERACRUZ, Panama — Team physician Dr Ephraim Ingram yesterday gave the Jamaica Under-17 squad a clean bill of health heading into today’s do-or-die CONCACAF Under-17 quarter-final clash with Canada at the Estadio Muquita Sanchez.
The technical team has been sweating over the fitness of captain Junior Flemmings, who lead Jamaica’s scoring with two goals, and left-sided defender Imani Beckford.
“Both Flemmings and Imani should be available for the game tomorrow (today),” Ingram told the Jamaica Observer.
Flemmings suffered a leg injury in the 2-2 result against Barbados on Monday and has seen minimal activity in training sessions since.
Beckford was absent from the Barbados battle after suffering a knee ailment in the opening Group A clash with Panama a week ago.
“The general condition of the players is pretty good. I think they have coped very well under the conditions so far. All in all, the niggles (minor injuries) were treated and everything should be fine,” the doctor said.
Ingram added that the management team has done all it can to ensure that players are properly hydrated to lessen the possibility of suffering cramps here in the warm and very humid Central American country.
“We have done the best we can in terms of getting them hydrated. We try to monitor them as much as we can to ensure they take in a whole lot (of fluids). It’s dependent upon them to some extent, but it is looking good so far. I also stressed that the game may well go 120 minutes, so they have to be prepared for that,” he sai
