WICB to help set-up secretariat in Leewards
ST.JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has promised to assist the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) in setting up a permanent secretariat for the sport in this sub region.
New WICB president Dave Cameron made the commitment on the heels of a promise from the government of Antigua and Barbuda to provide office space to house the LICA Secretariat.
“The WICB is prepared and willing to assist with the setting up of a permanent secretariat for LICA here in Antigua,” announced Cameron at a gala dinner to celebrate 100 years of organised cricket among the Leeward Islands over the weekend.
Cameron also said that he was prepared to take to the WICB Board of Directors a proposal on how the regional body can assist in strengthening cricket in the Leewards.
The newly-elected WICB president also congratulated LICA for being the forerunners to formal and competitive inter-island cricket in the region and says the 100th anniversary was the first of its kind being formally celebrated in West Indies Cricket.
Officials at the event included fast bowling legend Andy Roberts and the first man from the Leeward’s to play for West Indies Elquemedo Willett.
