William Knibb seek fifth straight win in Western Conference basketball
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — Fresh from their 46 points trouncing of Montego Bay High on Monday, defending champions William Knibb Memorial will go in search of their fifth straight win today when they take on Holland High in a return-round ISSA Western Conference high school girls basketball game at William Knibb Memorial.
William Knibb will be hunting another big win after they had beaten their neighbours Holland by nearly 50 points in their first-round meeting, 71-22, as they seek to close the gap on leaders Spot Valley High.
Spot Valley have won all six games played so far to be on 12 points, followed by newcomers Mt Alvernia High on 10 points from 12 games, with William Knibb Memorial and Muschett tied on nine points, Montego Bay High on eight and the winless Holland High on six points.
In the first game, Muschett High, who were losers to Spot Valley on Monday, will be seeking to bounce back when they take on Montego Bay High.
On Monday at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, Shanique Binns had a triple double, scoring 34 points along with 16 rebounds and 10 steals, as well as three blocked shots to lead William Knibb in their romp.
Khaydeen Thompson and Keila Henry also had double-doubles for William Knibb that trailed a fast-starting Montego Bay High 10-11 after the first quarter, then shut down the home team, limiting them to five points over the next three quarters.
Thompson had 12 points and 10 assists and Henry had 10 points and 18 rebounds, while Olivia Beckford scored 11 points for the home team.
In the other game, national senior team representative Loretta Gordon scored 48 points, as Spot Valley High dominated from the start, leading 14-2 after the first quarter, and were up 26-6 at half-time and never looked back.
Nicola Hewitt also scored 12 points for Spot Valley.
