Harbour View face jungle test
WITH the slimmest of mathematical chances of winning the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), Arnett Gardens are promising leaders Harbour View the hardest of times when they visit the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex today.
Harbour View, on 62 points, hold a nine-point lead atop the league and are 14 points and five places ahead of Arnett Gardens in sixth spot on 48 points.
But just like the die-hard Arnett Gardens’ fans, head coach Calvin Lewis believes his team still has a chance of winning it all.
Said Lewis: “It won’t be an easy game for them, we are going with a full-strength team ’cause there is still a chance.”
He continued: “It is very difficult in terms of motivation right now seeing that we are in the middle of nowhere. But we have Harbour View to play two times and they are motivated to play them.”
Motivated or not, Arnett Gardens will find it hard to beat Harbour View, having lost to them twice this season. But with the towering Newton Sterling finding form, the usually reliable Kirk Ramsey and national player Errol Stevens set to play some part, Arnett Gardens could upset the applecart.
However, Harbour View must start favourites to win, especially against the team with the third worst defence in the league behind Highgate United and Savannah FC.
Arnett Gardens have conceded 43 times from 32 games with relegation favourites Savannah letting in 62 goals, and Highgate 47 times.
Meanwhile, second-placed Waterhouse, on 53 points, tackle a hungry and dangerous Humble Lion team hovering just above the relegation zone in 10th spot on 34 points and eager to distance themselves.
Third and fourth-placed teams Portmore United and Boys’ Town, on 52 points each, will take each other on Monday night, knowing only a win will be good enough.
The surging Tivoli Gardens, in fifth spot on 48 points, will have to deal with the fast-paced Sporting Central Academy, ninth on 40 points, while eighth-placed Cavalier, on 41 points, host 11th-placed Highgate United.
Cellar team Savannah, on 19 points, once again face the sword and could officially be relegated today, if they lose to seventh-placed Montego Bay United, who are on 44 points.
If the Westmoreland-based Savannah lose, they can amass only 15 more points from the remaining five games, which would take them to 34 points, which 10th-placed Humble Lion currently sit on. So the writing is very much on the wall.
