Windwards ready to work with new WICB chief
ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — The Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control (WICBC) says the election of Jamaican businessman Dave Cameron to the post of president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is a “signal moment” for the development of cricket in the region.
Cameron defeated incumbent Dr Julian Hunte, a St Lucian who has been credited with stabilising West Indies cricket during a dark period.
Hunte also has the distinction of being the first person from the OECS sub-grouping to have served as WICB president.
“We view your election as a signal moment in the history of the development of the game in the region,” wrote vice-president of the WICBC, Elson Crick in a letter to Cameron.
“We stand ready to work with you in the development of West Indies cricket,” said the letter continued.
Cameron was nominated by the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) and seconded by the WICBC in a closely-contested election that ended the six-year tenure of Hunte.
“We note the tenets of your manifesto as it regards your future plans as president, and we pledge as far as possible, our support for the work of your new administration,” Crick said.
“We recognise the role that you will now play in effecting the return of the game of cricket, to the glory days of the 1980’s and 1990’s, and we pledge our support in this regard,” the letter went on.
