THE Department of Communication Studies at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) stages the two-day Lignum Vitae Film Festival starting April 8-9. It will be held under the theme, ‘Show me the ginger: Using media to help Jamaicans to remain Jamaicanly’.

To be held at the university’s main campus in Mandeville, the festival is part of the university’s two-day communication symposium.

Tameka Wilson, research assistant in the Department of Communications Studies, says NCU went all out to attract videos produced by students at the tertiary and secondary levels.

According to Wilson, their films should “reflect a positive aspect of the peoples of the Caribbean and should be free from profane language or gestures. Immorality, anti-religious sentiments or demonic undertones will lead to the disqualification of the submission”.

Videos can be submitted directly to the department in Mandeville or by file-sharing format. Submitted works will be placed in three categories: short film, silent film or animation.

Winners of the following awards will receive cash prizes and trophies: Best Overall Picture, Best Director, Best Use of Graphics/Animation, Best Actress, and Best Actor.
