TEENvoices: Can we make it?
BACK in February, the Reggae Boyz played their first match for the World Cup Qualifiers (WCQ) against Mexico where it ended with a goal-less draw and one point for the Boyz. They moved on to play Panama in Jamaica, which also resulted in a tie.
However, in their latest match against Costa Rico, Jamaica was pushed into last position of the six-team table for the WCQ campaign with a 2-0 defeat. This was Costa Rico’s first win of three games, which raised their points to four, while Jamaica sits on two.
Following this seemingly downward spiral for the Reggae Boyz, their competence is now being criticised. Do they have what it takes to perform like they did back in 1998 when they made it to France? We would like to know what you think. What are Jamaica’s chances to make the World Cup in Rio 2014?
I don’t think Jamaica has a chance to qualify for Rio 2014 because the players aren’t tactically smart, there’s little chemistry among them because they aren’t used to each other seeing that most of them are overseas players and most of them are too old.

I believe they need to win at least two and draw one of their remaining matches. They have the players, it is just that they are not playing together and their execution poor. If they just correct that then it is possible they can achieve it, but I, for one, don’t have the faith in them.
— Paul THOMPSON
I think the chances are good if the midfield tightens up. Also if they perfect the formation Jamaica’s team can be a force to reckon with in the upcoming World Cup.
— De Vaughn GREEN
Based on current form, it is very unlikely. They look like a bunch of random players running around in the same outfit. I don’t see any tactics or cohesion in the group. The play was extremely poor. They’re not ready.
— Joel NELSON
I think they had a good chance after the first match but right now, with no good midfielder except McAnuff and no clinical striker its starting to look impossible. There’s only McAnuff to create the goal scoring opportunities and if those opportunities are created, there’s absolutely no one to capitalise on it.

Well, once the team find some amount of chemistry their chances to qualify for World Cup should be pretty good. However, on observing the previous matches if improvement is not done where chemistry and finishing is concerned Jamaica can kiss Rio This is your chance to tell teenAGE your views on national 2014 goodbye.
