DB Basovak, New raiders in LIME St Catherine finals
DB Basovak and New Raiders advanced to the final of the LIME St Catherine Major and Division One Leagues with contrasting victories over Flaming and Travelers, respectively.
DB Basovak, entered the second leg with a 4-0 advantage and came from behind to clip Flaming 3-2 courtesy of a hat-trick from Andre ‘Messi’ Simmonds for a 7-2 aggregate win.
Trailing 0-4 from the first leg, Flamingo came out firing and took an early lead courtesy of Fabian Whyne in the third minute, setting the stage for a grand fightback, reducing the deficit to three goals.
However, that was short-lived as Simmonds grabbed the first of goals in the fifth minute to level the scores for DB Basovak, and restored their four-goal advantage.
But Flamingo showed that they were up for it, and again took the lead when Delano Williams netted in the 42nd minute to end the half with hope.
That comeback never materialised in the second half and the hope of overturning the three-goal deficit was too much for Flamingo and with time running out, Simmonds stole the show grabbing two goals in the 88th and 90th minutes to complete his hat-trick and propelled DB Basovak to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory and sealed their appearance in the final.
With the Major League final set for April 12, DB Basovak will now await the winner of the other semi-final between Old Harbour Bay and Christian pen set for Sunday, and locked at 1-1 from the first leg.
Meanwhile, in the Division One league, with the tie evenly poised at 0-0 from the first leg, New Raiders battled from 3-1 down with five minutes remaining to level the game at 3-3 in normal time then emerge 5-3 winners in extra time for an exciting win.
Kevaughn Russell had given New Raider a 19th-minute lead, but Travelers hit back hard with three goals and looked well on their way to the Division One final with time running out.
Traveler’s coach and captain Craig Richards netted a brace in the 44th and 63rd minutes to give Travelers the advantage and his teammate Terrence Sinclair put them 3-1 up in the 70th minute and they seemed to be cruising to victory.
At that point, Richards, apparently sensing victory, substituted himself only to watch in awe as his side crumbled late on.
New Raiders struck two goals in six minutes to level the scores at 3-3. Kemar Monroe pulled one back in the 83rd minute before Ricardo Wright tied the game in the 89th minute, sending the match into extra time.
Russell popped up in the first period of extra time to score in the 91st minute for his second goal before Wright also competed his brace in the 105th minute for an exciting win.
New Raiders now await the winner of the other semi-final which will be played on Sunday, with title favourites Albion FC holding a 3-1 advantage over Dunbeholden.
