Bad Friday concert for Jarrett Park
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A galaxy of mostly Rastafarian reggae and dancehall acts is expected to headline a concert to be staged at Jarrett Park Saturday night, as a part of the Rasta Bad Friday commemorative events.
The strong line-up includes Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrika, Chronixx, Jah 9, Tony Rebel, Junior Kelly, Warrior King, Bushman and Chezidek.
The event is being held to commemorate the Coral Gardens atrocity against members of the Rastafarian faith by members of the state security forces on Good Friday in the year 1963.
Prior to the live concert, a football match will be played at Jarrett Park between Iritical Kush and Rastafari All Stars.
Meanwhile, a banquet will be staged at the Pitfour Nyahbinghi Centre, St James, tomorrow, which also forms part of the slew of commemorative events.
Speakers will include Ras Jalani, Ras Dawit, Ras Miguel Lorne, Ras Imo, Sis Nanny, Empress Esther, Miguel Brooks, Professor Verene Shepherd and Michael Barnett.
The ‘Coral Gardens Incident’ – or what has been dubbed in Rastafarian circles as ‘Bad Friday’, in which Rastafarians were hunted down, trimmed, imprisoned and brutalised, played out 50 years ago.
