Granville move up in Captain’s Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Granville United took over fourth place in the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League after salvaging a point in their1-1 draw with Catherine Hall at the UDC field on Sunday.
Davion Thelwell scored in the 81st minute for Granville United after Marlon Excell had given Catherine Hall the lead in the 45th minute as they improved to 20 points and passed Holland United for fourth place.
Despite snapping a four-game win streak, the draw saw Granville extend their unbeaten streak to nine games and were conceding a goal for the first time in five games.
Catherine Hall have slipped to eighth position, just one place above the automatic relegation zone on 14 points but have two games in hand.
Holland United continued their mini-resurgence with a 3-1 come-from-behind win over Petersfield FC, thanks to a late double from Romaine Lewis.
Lewis scored in the 75th and 89th minutes to secure Holland United’s fifth win of the season after the teams were locked at 1-1. Akeem Whyte’s 34th-minute goal had given the Westmorland team the lead, while St Derrick Pryce had levelled the scores in the 65th minute before Lewis, who is now on six goals and joint lead with Tomorrow’s People’s Davell Cornwall, took over.
Norwood Strikers also moved to relative security in seventh place with a 1-0 win over Harmony at Bounty Hall, Marvin Muirhead scoring the winner in the 68th minute.
Bamboo FC, also fighting a relegation battle, scored a rare win by edging Logwood 1-0 in their Hanover derby as Dwayne Jump scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute.
