Customs extends opening hours
KINGSTON, Jamaica –With the pending introduction of Government’s Customs Administration Fees (CAF), the Jamaica Customs Department has extended opening hours to clear the backlog of goods on the wharves.
The Department says it will be extending its hours at Customs House (including the Collections and Accounts Unit) in Kingston and Montego Bay on Wednesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 28.
According to Jamaica Customs the decision was taken in an effort to give clients an opportunity to clear goods before the end of the current financial year; and before the introduction of the CAF which takes effect on April 1.
On Wednesday, the Department will be open to the public from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm while on Thursday opening hours will be between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.
In addition, Customs Department said that Port Operators– Air Cargo (Kingston), Kingston Container Services Limited, One Stop Shop (formerly Universal Freight Handlers), Kingston Wharves Limited and the Kingston Logistics Centre Limited – have agreed to extend their work hours from 8:00am to 6:00pm on Thursday. The ports in Montego Bay will extend their work hours, as the need arises, the Department said.
