Miller continues form as Jamaica defeat Leewards
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Left-arm orthodox spinner Nikita Miller continued his excellent form in this season’s Regional four-day tournament, grabbing 11 wickets in the match as Jamaica emphatically defeated the Leeward Islands by 170 runs at Sabina Park in Kingston Monday.
This is the third straight win of the tournament for Jamaica and a result that meant they now equal the regional first class record of 12 consecutive wins held by Barbados.
Set an improbable 327 to win, the Leewards were bowled out for 156.
Captain Sylvester Joseph and middle-order batsman Jamar Hamilton showed a stubborn willingness to fight in a solid 91-run stand, but the Jamaican bowling attack, as they did in the first innings, proved too strong.
Miller took 4-34 to end with 11-47 in the game, while Richardson claimed 3-30 for a total of six wickets in the match.
Earlier in the day Odean Brown and Sheldon Cotterell pushed their last wicket partnership to an impressive 109 runs to frustrate the Leeward Islands.
Brown was dismissed for 59 while Cotterell contributed 48 not out.
The Jamaicans, skippered by Tamar Lambert, now turn their attention to mighty rivals Trinidad & Tobago, whom they face in a four-day encounter at Sabina, starting Saturday.
The teams will then meet in the Super50 competition at the same venue on April 4.
