Basovak, Albion keep rolling in LIME League
DB Basovak and Albion FC took gigantic steps toward qualifying for the LIME St Catherine Major and Division One leagues with emphatic first leg semi-final victories
over Flamingo and Dunbeholden, respectively.
DB Basovak trounced Flamingo 4-0 last Thursday and it will take a miracle
for them not to advance to the final. In fact, it looks a safe bet.
Goals by Vinroy Hayles (20th minute), Luke Soares (22nd), Zavian McGaw (44th) and Renardo Graham (90th) sealed the massive win and one foot into the final.
It was an awesome display from Basovak, and it will be extremely difficult for Flamingo to get back
into this tie in the return leg on Sunday.
DB Basovak’s coach Michael Johnson was quick to point out that there is no room for complacency following their emphatic first-leg victory.
“They know there is no such word as complacency. We want to finish strong, and winning is a habit just like losing, so we want to continue that sort of momentum,” Johnson told the Jamaica Observer.
With the other semi-final evenly poised, Johnson is ready for any one, despite not beating either throughout the season.
“We played both and haven’t beaten both, so it doesn’t really matter to me. We have to work on what we can control, and we can control, how we play.
So we are preparing ourselves for any one of them,” said Johnson.
In the other semi-final on Saturday, Old Harbour Bay and Christian Pen battled to a 1-1 draw and still have everything to play for in their return-leg set
for Sunday.
Mark Newsome scored for Christian Pen in the 80th minute, while Twayne Biggs had given Old Harbour Bay a 75th-minute lead.
Meanwhile, in the Division One, title favourites Albion whipped Dunbeholden 3-1 to put one foot in the final with goals from Orville Newell (24th), Kenny Lee (42nd) and Tavoy Morgan (48th) cancelling out an early third-minute strike by Richard Oats.
And their coach Daine Brown is equally confident they can complete the job
in the return-leg on Thursday and secure a spot in the final.
But he also drew reference to Barcelona who overcame a two-goal deficit to beat AC Milan and advance in the UEFA Champions League recently, hence no room
for complacency.
“For the second leg we don’t want to be complacent, because this is football. We are working hard and wont stop until the final,” said Brown.
In the other semis, Travelers and New Raiders played to a 0-0 draw and
still have everything to
play for in the return leg
on Thursday.
