Highgate humble the ‘Lion’ at Drax Hall
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Highgate chalked up their third victory at home when they defeated Humble Lion 2-0 at Drax Hall Sunday evening in their Red Stripe Primer League football game.
Carlos Barrett opened the scoring in the 21st and Shamir Stewart made the game safe nine minutes from full time.
The hosts dominated the early action through the efforts of Severo Murphy, Richard Allison, Akien Coley, Carlos Barrett and Kevin Williams, and should have taken the lead when Shamir Stewart short high over the top with goalkeeper Garth Heron off his line.
They went ahead when Murphy was brought down by a defender inside the penalty area leaving referee Wilverglen Lamey with no option but to point to the penalty spot. Barrett calmly stepped up and placed the ball to the right of Heron.
The visitors tried to get back into the game through Jermaine Christian, Ranaldo Christian and Wolry Wolfe as they dominated the second part of the half. Just before the break they should have levelled the score when Christian centred a pass from the right, but neither Wolfe nor Omar Walters could turn the ball home.
Highgate dominated the second half Stewart sealed the win when he beat a defender and then Heron.
