Rivoli, Frazsiers for Super League final
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — A St Catherine derby between Rivoli United and Frazsiers Whip will decide the winners of this season’s South Central Confederation Super League following the completion of the semi-final round on Sunday.
Both sides played out hard-fought 0-0 draws in their respective second-leg semi-final against Appleton Estate and New Green in front of a lively home crowd at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
Rivoli advanced to the final, which will also be played over two legs starting on Wednesday at the same venue, with a 1-0 aggregate win over defending champions New Green of Manchester, while debutants Frazsiers got by fellow promoted outfit Appleton, based in St Elizabeth, 2-1.
It will be the third time in four seasons that two St Catherine teams are contesting the championship decider. Last year’s showdown between Rivoli and New Green is the exception.
Rivoli will actually be contesting their third successive final since being relegated from the National Premier League in 2010 and Calvert Fitzgerald’s side will be hoping to go all the way this time around.
For Frazsiers, reaching the final represents a remarkable feat for a club that is hoping to secure a fourth successive promotion on their way to the premiership.
