NBA Update – CATCH 23?
IT seems as though the dominance of the Miami Heat is on a never-ending journey as their win streak ballooned to 22 (as at press time) after Sunday’s 108-91 win over the Toronto Raptors. WESTERN CONFERENCELOOK AT ME NOW
Last night they faced the Boston Celtics, so their win streak was either ended by Doc Rivers and his resilient squad or grew to the second-best record ever in the NBA, to 23. With a 51-14 record, the Heat also boast the best record in the NBA, which is really of little to no surprise.
The Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks have all but surrendered the number one spot to the Heat. They closed the week with losing streaks of two and three respectively, allowing the gap to widen to 11 games. The Pacers have a record of 40-26 while the Knicks are at 38-27.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Charlotte Bobcats became the first team in the league to be eliminated from playoff contention. With a league-worst record of 14-52, they are only one of two teams yet to win 20 games for the season, with the other being the Orlando Magic who have an 18-49 record.
WHILE the Heat are proving to the East how destructive they can be, the Denver Nuggets have flown under the radar to amass an impressive 11-game win streak to make themselves the team to beat in the West.
Though not possessing any league ‘stars’, their overall team effeciency makes them a danger for any opposition. With the streak they have improved their record to 45-22, tied for the fourth-best record in the conference.
At the top of the conference, the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder joined the Miami Heat as they only teams who are sure of a place in the 2012-2013 NBA play-offs. With respective records of 51-16 and 49-17, their only concern at this stage will be where they end up in the standings and who they will face as their first opponents in their quest to clinch the ultimate NBA prize.
The Los Angeles Lakers are clinging to the last play-off as the regular season comes to an end. With a 35-32 record as at press time, they were barely holding off the Utah Jazz who held a 34-32 record.
