Christiana still celebrating Holmwood’s historic victory
CHRISTIANA, Manchester – Students of Holmwood High School are still celebrating two days after the school, in one of the most talked-about high school athletics clash, regained its hold on the girls’ title at the 2013 Boys and Girls Athletics Championships.
The sounds of the plastic vuvuzela horn piercing the early morning air,
throngs of students, with broad smiles shouting Holmwood!, Holmwood!, as they march through the community.
Celebration is all around Christiana.
“We are champions, hard work and dedication has paid off,” shouted one student as he passed the Observer team.
He was one of many who said the victory of the school has left them feeling extremely proud.
In town several adults agreed, sharing in the students’ noisy Monday morning celebration.
“Me really feel proud to see what the students them do, them really make we feel good,” said Michael Thompson as he spoke to a friend Kermit Neil.
“The win really put the focus back on we town again,” Neil responded.
Holmwood on Saturday overcame a deficit of close to 40 points to overtake 2012 champions Edwin Allen High and win Girls’ Champs at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Calabar High School was crowned king of the Boys section of the event where 30 records were broken.
