TP, Wadadah in grudge match
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Mid-season champions Tomorrow’s People and beaten finalists Wadadah FC will clash in a grudge match in the third round of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation’s Super League at Jarrett Park this afternoon. Match time is 3:30 pm.
Tomorrow’s People surprised Wadadah 3-2 in the play-offs at Jarrett Park two weeks ago when both teams fielded under-strength teams, but both are expected to be back to full strength for today’s game which could be explosive.
Wadadah FC are the leaders of the competition on overall points and are favourites to win the title, notwithstanding their loss two weeks ago.
Tomorrow’s People will no doubt use that win in the consolation play-off as a launching pad for a place in the semi-finals and final and will also seek to prove their win two weeks ago was no fluke.
Wadadah FC, who rested last week, should include the likes of Mario Swaby, Loxley Thomas and Garth Johnson who were missing in the mid-season final. Ajohn Barker, however, who came on to score both of Wadadah’s goals, might have won a place in the starting team.
Davell Cornwall (five goals), Gregory Tape and Jermaine Cooper are expected to lead the Tomorrow’s People team today.
Former champions Reno FC, who edged Logwood FC 2-1 on Tuesday with two goals from Denmark Gillings and moved to join Wadadah on 23 points, will be away to Village United at Elliston Wakeland in a match-up of teams that would have faced each other in the Premier League last year.
Village United, who have slipped to fourth place and were beaten 3-0 by Holland United on Sunday, will need to win to stay in semi-final contention and above fifth-placed Granville United who will be away to Harmony United at Bounty Hall.
