Muschett High School on top in Western basketball
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — FORMER national champions Muschett High School leads the points tables in the ISSA Western Conference Girls’ Basketball Open league, after a convincing 10 points 32-22 win over Montego Bay High at Holland High on Monday.
The win was the second for Muschett High, from three games, as they improved to five points, one more than Spot Valley High’s four points, with the other four schools all on three points, including defending champions William Knibb Memorial, who hammered Holland High 71-22.
The competition is on a break until the completion of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium that ends on Saturday.
On Monday, Muschett High outscored MoBay High 23-14 in the second half, after a close first half that saw the schools tied at 2-2 after the first quarter, and with Muschett ahead 9-8 at half-time.
Chen-Lee Brown scored 16 points to lead Muschett along with six rebounds and two blocks, with Sashanel Smalling chipping in with nine points.
Olivia Beckford scored 16 points for Montego Bay High and had five steals.
In the second game, after going down to Spot Valley High in a close game, William Knibb Memorial rebounded in a big way, blowing away Holland by 49 points.
Chanique Binns scored 26 points to lead the winners, 22 rebounds and three steals; Nicole Hall scored 14 points; Khaydean Thompson scored nine points and had six rebounds and nine assists, while Keila Henry scored eight points and had 16 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Lanasha Smith scored 20 of Holland’s 22 points.
