Narine guides T&T to victory with cameo
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Opener Adrian Barath struck his fourth half-century in five innings, but it was Sunil Narine’s unbeaten cameo that propelled Trinidad and Tobago to an exciting two-wicket victory over Guyana in the Super50 Championship here Monday night.
Set 235 for victory in the fourth round, day/night affair at Queen’s Park Oval, T&T recovered from a bad slide to reach their target off 45 overs.
Barath carved out 65 from 81 balls with eight boundaries and Dwayne Bravo got 32 from 38 balls with five fours, as T&T cruised to 180 for four at one stage.
However, off-spinner Steven Jacobs, who took three for 39 from his nine overs, helped engineer a collapse which saw T&T lose four wickets for 21 runs in the space of 22 deliveries.
With the game in the balance at 201 for eight in the 38th over, Narine arrived to uncork a breezy 28 from 27 balls to see the hosts home comfortably in the end.
He lashed three fours and put on 34 for the ninth wicket with Yannick Cariah, who was unbeaten on eight.
Sent in earlier, Guyana recovered from 117 for six in the 28th over to be dismissed for a creditable 234 all out off their 50 overs.
Chris Barnwell stroked a superb 66 from 98 balls and tail-ender Devendra Bishoo supported with an unbeaten 52 from 70 balls, in a 107-run, seventh-wicket partnership that pulled Guyana around.
