CCC stumble but still get over floundering Leewards
CAVE HILL, Barbados (CMC) — Resurgent Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) kept Leeward Islands in the doldrums with a three-wicket win in their fourth round, day/night Super50 Championship match here Monday.
They limited the Leewards to an inadequate 115 all out off 40.2 overs and then survived a few stutters to reach their target off 32.2 overs, at 3Ws Oval.
Opener Shacaya Thomas carried his side with an impressive 61 off 86 balls to help rescue the innings from a shaky position of eight for two in the fifth over.
For CCC, it was their second win in four outings, while the Leewards remained winless this season in all competitions.
Opting to bat first, the Leewards lost early wickets to be 36 for three in the 15th over, as they were undermined by two bad run outs.
However, there was no sign of the imminent collapse when Devon Thomas struck one six in gathering a top score of 31 off 56 balls.
He added 36 for the fourth wicket with captain Sylvester Joseph (12) and a further 22 for the fifth wicket with Steve Liburd (12).
Joseph holed out to wide long-on off off-spinner Ryan Austin (2-24) before Thomas departed to a catch at the wicket off left-arm spinner Derone Davis (3-32).
The Leewards then lost their last six wickets for 21 runs, to fold swiftly.
CCC were in early trouble, losing Chadwick Walton lbw to seamer Kelbert Walters (3-33) to the third ball of the innings without scoring before seeing captain Kyle Corbin (4) taken at mid-off off Walters in the fifth over.
However, Thomas combined with Floyd Reifer (13) to post 45 for the third wicket and also found an ally in Raymon Reifer (13) to add another 37 for the fourth wicket, to put CCC in sight of victory.
