Booted club to ‘Wander’ in football wilderness
WANDERERS FC have been kicked out of the LIME St Catherine Major League for disciplinary reasons following a nasty brawl recently and has been joined by McCooks Pen as the two relegated teams this season.
Wanderers, who were rooted to the bottom of Zone A on eight points, have been suspended for three years along with the entire executive of the club — Raam Narasingh, Michelle Narasingh, Patrick Cockett, Dujohn Kennedy, and Garnet Lawrence for a nasty brawl in which members of the referees’ fraternity were attacked during a match with Tru-Juice on Saturday, March 2.
The club has been fined $30,000 which must be paid in 30 days of the date they have been informed and the club must also reimburse members of the referees’ group for damage to gears and equipment.
They are also to reimburse members of the referees’ group and players of Tru-Juice for medical expenses incurred. These sums should be forwarded to the club as soon as this is known.
Coach Tyrone Roberts of Wanderers has been suspended until March 6, 2014, but this sanction has been suspended for a period of one year and a fine of $10,000, while his assistant coach Jeffrey Bowen has been suspended for three years.
Meanwhile, McCooks Pen are at the bottom of Zone B with just six points from 14 games, which include one win, 10 defeats and three draws and will play in the St Catherine Central Division Two next season.
In the Division One, Hellshire have been relegated and could be joined in Division Two by at least three teams — Upfront United, Westchester or Blackpool.
Hellshire garnered only six points from their 15 games — one win, 11 losses and three defeats. They will return to the Division Two Portmore League following their dismal showing.
Three other teams are in the wretched dogfight for survival in Blackpool (14), Westchester (11) and Upfront United (eight) with two rounds remaining.
Meanwhile, the four semi-finalists in the Major League have been decided with Old Harbour Bay and DB Basovak from Zone A and Flamingo and Christian Pen from Zone B.
Flamingo finished on top overall with 29 points and will play DB Basovak, which ended with 24 points. Old Harbour Bay with 26 points, will take on Christian Pen on 23 points in the semi-finals set for March 21.
In games over the weekend, Old Harbour Bay clipped Tru-Juice 2-1; DB Basovak edged Dela Vega City 1-0; Portsmouth whipped McCooks Pen 5-0; Flamingo beat Naggos Head 3-1 and Black Lions blanked Christian Pen 2-0.
Other Division One results over the weekend are: Albion vs Travelers, 0-0; Watson Grove vs New Raiders, 1-0; Spanish Town Police vs Farm United, 3-0; Windsor Lions vs Westchester, 0-0 and Blackpool vs Hellshire, 2-0.
