Muschett target lead today in girls basketball league
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — Former champions Muschett High could take over the lead in the ISSA Western Conference girls’ high school basketball competition today when they take on Montego Bay High in the first game of a double-header set for Holland High starting at 2:30 pm.
Muschett High, who were beaten 41-20 by current leaders Spot Valley High on Friday, are on three points but a win would take them to five, one more than Spot Valley.
Montego Bay High are no pushover, however, and after winning their opening game against Holland last week, will be going after their second win as well.
In the second game, defending champions William Knibb Memorial and close neighbours Holland High will be going after their first win.
Holland have lost both games played so far, while William Knibb were beaten by Spot Valley in their opening game.
On Friday, Spot Valley, last year’s beaten finalists, notched up win number two, beating Muschett at Wakefield, Trelawny.
National senior team player Loreta Gordon scored 27 points and had five steals, four assists and three rebounds to lead Spot Valley, who led 12-0 after the first quarter, 22-4 at half-time and 29-13 going into the fourth quarter.
Sherise Walker also scored six points for Spot Valley while Tasha Harris led Muschett High with eight points and Chen-Lee Brown scored five points and had 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.
