First home point for ‘Teacher’ Hyde
TOLL GATE, Clarendon — Sporting Central Academy earned their first point at home under coach Lenny Hyde after playing out a 0-0 stalemate with Waterhouse in third-round Red Stripe Premier League yesterday.
Both sides put in a good shift at Brancourt in south-west Clarendon, but the closest either came to breaking the deadlock was a disallowed Jermaine Anderson goal that was ruled offside in the 69th minute.
Anderson, the league’s leading goalscorer (16), was earlier denied what would have been a sure goal courtesy of superb glove work by home goalie Kevin Graham.
Barring last week’s 4-0 win at Cavalier, this was arguably Sporting’s best display under Hyde, though they failed to get on the scoresheet.
They kept possession well, without being careless at the back, but lacked the cutting edge needed to unlock a Waterhouse defence that’s bettered only by league leaders Harbour View.
With the point, which ended a run of three successive defeats at home, Sporting improved their tally to 33 points in ninth, while Waterhouse inched to 44 to remain fourth.
